The piracy of games is as old as gaming itself. Recently though, piracy has gotten worse according to many businesses like Nintendo. Nintendo's sales of handheld games in Europe went down by 50% because people were putting games onto a card that can be purchased for the DS. However, there are upsides to gaming piracy. There are a lot of loyal fans out there and if a game is truly worth the money, then most people with buy it. This means the gaming companies have to work harder to make games better. In the end, we get better games and even those people that pirate will see that a good games is always worth the money. Piracy really pushes companies to do their best and I think that this a positive. Hopefully piracy will eventually die altogether thanks to the great software that companies will put out. However, I think that it is too optimistic, but I hope that it rings true. |
